A lot of us, writers, solitary creatures, with our eyes fixed on our computer, blank page, or typewriter keys (for those of you who are still using typewriters), feel that, after the book is published, your job is done. The publisher will take care of the promotion, of the sale, and the possible fame or reputation that could come out of this effort. Well, in a perfect world, maybe... but it is not like that. Even if your publisher is a large, renowned "printing machine" with all its wheels and whistles in place, you are really the one who can either suggest or take the initiative to contact the perfect venue and audience to start promoting your book. You know your book more than anyone else; you know how it fits in the general context; you know who will probably read it. Do not hesitate to contact libraries, schools, cultural centers, bookstores for you to schedule readings. Your publisher will be happy to ship copies directly to them, prior to the event. Do not be shy. You wrote the book to share your thoughts and experiences. People want to hear them from you. Have fun! And do not be bashful: share the details of the event on your social media to recruit listeners and potential buyers.
